In summary:Contribute to and support the multi disciplinary team to provide a high quality service that takes account of service users' individual needs.Contribute to ensuring a therapeutic and safe environment is maintained for service users, carers, visitors and staff. Communicate effectively and sensitively with service users according to their age, understanding, language and ability.Promote and engage in therapeutic activity on the ward, under direction of the nursing team and the Occupational Therapist.Provide practical support to service users in developing and managing their dignity and independence. Contribute to and support service users' rights, beliefs and choices taking into account issues of diversity and cultural need.Understand and follow delegated duties in relation to individual service user's care. Support qualified staff and contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of individual's care plans.Assist in the delivery of direct patient care under the direction and supervision of the appropriately qualified staff.Undertake nursing observations in line with the Safe and Supportive Observation of Patients at Risk Policy.Contribute to the planning and implementation of appropriate activities and tasks for service users.Assist service users to develop and maintain personal hygiene and appearance and cleanliness in their environment, providing directpersonal care where appropriate, whilst promoting their independence and choice.Assist and where appropriate, accompany service users in taking up recreational and leisure activities, following a risk assessment being undertaken by a registered nurse.• Required to undertake identified escort duties within and outside the mental health unit boundaries as delegated by a registered nurse following a risk assessment being undertaken by a registered nurse.Encourage service users to select an appropriate diet and fluids to meet their nutritional requirements. Assist service users in eating and drinking as identified in their care plan.Assist service users to maintain and improve their mobility.Assist in moving and handling service users where necessary, utilising Trust approved manual handling techniques.Develop a rapport with service users based on trust and respect within appropriate professional boundaries.
