The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, providing strategic financial guidance, and supporting the long-term financial health of the company. This role requires a hands-on leader willing to get stuck in and excited to be a core part of a fast-growing scale-up tech company. As Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving forward-looking financial strategy and decision-making. This includes developing robust financial models to inform strategic business planning, managing working capital to optimise cash flow, and conducting thorough bid appraisals to assess investment opportunities. You will provide insights that support senior leadership in evaluating financial performance and guide the business in navigating future growth opportunities. In addition to this strategic work, you will oversee day-to-day financial operations, such as managing accounts receivable and payable, reconciling bank statements, preparing accurate financial reports, and maintaining precise company records. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organised, and possess excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include: Take full ownership of the company’s integrated financial model, ensuring its accuracy and effectiveness in guiding business strategy, planning, and decision-making. Lead detailed cash flow forecasting, providing insights into historical and future financial trends to support strategic business growth and working capital optimisation. Conduct thorough appraisals of potential projects, evaluating funding options, return on investment (ROI), and financial viability to guide key business decisions. Produce and present monthly board packs that include performance analysis against budget, KPI tracking, and detailed financial commentary for the leadership team. Shape and maintain accounting policies and revenue recognition practices in compliance with relevant accounting standards. Oversee all aspects of working capital management, including optimisation of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring efficient cash flow and liquidity. Collaborate with external accountants and auditors to manage year-end financial processes, ensuring compliance and accuracy in financial reporting. Manage taxation matters, including the submission of Research and Development (R&D) tax credit claims and ensuring tax compliance with all relevant regulations. Take responsibility for additional commercial functions, including the management of office operations, insurance policies, and other relevant business areas. Ensure financial compliance with UK GAAP, regulatory standards, and reporting requirements, driving best practices across the organisation. Our Ideal Candidate: Experience in financial management, ideally within Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) or high-growth companies. Experience of financial modelling and financial reporting including revenue recognition on long-term projects. Experience of raising capital within an SME construct. Professional Accountancy Qualification (CIMA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent). Proven experience in shaping and executing financial strategies within a rapidly growing business, with a focus on driving financial performance and business expansion. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels, including external customers. Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and work effectively in team environments, both internally and with key partners. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex financial challenges. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information in a clear and concise manner. Must be eligible for and able to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
