Job Requirements / Description
Oxford Mutual Aid is seeking a new Director of Operations (Fundraising and Communications) to join our team. You can find more information including how to apply on our website: What is Oxford Mutual Aid? Oxford Mutual Aid (OMA) is a grassroots, volunteer-driven organisation, which has been operating for nearly 4 years. Our aim is to relieve poverty and need through the provision of food parcels, reheatable meals and other household necessities. To achieve this we facilitate the sourcing, packing and delivery of regular and emergency support, helping more than 1000 people every week. Our fantastic community is a credit to the work of a passionate and engaged volunteer base, and is a continued reflection upon our founding principles of mutual aid, as an “organisation based on collective coordination to meet each other’s needs, from an awareness that the systems we have in place are not going to meet them.” We are a young, driven organisation working in a solidarity-driven model and this role offers the opportunity to be at the centre of OMA’s growth and development. Role overview: Director of Operations (Fundraising and Communications) We are hiring a Director of Operations with a focus on fundraising and communications, who will lead a fantastic team of Operations Coordinators alongside the second Director of Operations, who focuses on sourcing and service delivery. Together you will work collaboratively with staff, the strategic oversight group, members and brilliant volunteers through respectful, reflective practice. Whilst team roles and positions are delineated through a semi-hierarchical structure, decisions are made collectively both within the staff team and across the organisation. As a small team, at times flexibility is required to support other members of staff in their areas of work, giving the right candidate a chance to be involved in all the branches of the organisation. Location Hybrid working. Primarily remote working with 1-2 days a week in person at our East Oxford base. Reports to Oxford Mutual Aid Board of Directors and Members. Line Manages Operations Coordinators and Finance Coordinator. Hours 36 hours per week and a requirement to work regular Sundays (c. 1 every 3 weeks) and bank holidays. Salary £29k FTE (Actual £26,100 for 36 hours per week) Contract Type Permanent Holidays 28 days equivalent, inclusive of bank holidays Pension Employers pension of 3% with NEST Start Date November 1st 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter Probation 3 Months Deadline 5pm 25th September 2024 Job specification The Directors of Operations share responsibility for the oversight of daily operations including parcel and meal deliveries, surplus collections, and volunteer management. As the Director of Operations for fundraising and communications you will take a lead in ensuring the financial sustainability of the organisation , with a focus on securing long term and emergency funding. The role will include development of OMA’s fundraising strategy, and implementation of its core objectives through leadership and coordination of working groups of volunteers and staff members. The role holds responsibility for the continued expansion and management of funding streams, stakeholder partnerships and outreach projects . Operational management at OMA includes managing our phone line to process emergency parcel requests, as well as regular time each week managing volunteer packing at our hall on Cowley Road. This is important so our Directors of Operations build a relationship with the recipients and volunteer base, and form a close understanding of the daily challenges faced by the organisation . Operational requirements can be flexible to suit the right candidate, balancing time working remotely and adapting to their strengths. We do not expect applicants to possess all of the essential and desired criteria , and are interested in applicants with a wide range of experiences. If you have any questions about your suitability for the role, we encourage you to reach out. You can find more information including how to apply on our website:
