The Finance Director plays a critical role in leading GBN's financial strategy and ensuring its long-term financial health within the complex and highly regulated nuclear industry. You will lead a team of finance professionals, overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including budgeting, reporting (including annual report and accounts), accountability, funding, compliance, and transactions. Your deep understanding of financial principles, industry regulations, and strategic planning will be essential for GBN financial trajectory and ensuring its sustainable growth. You will lead negotiations on funding for GBN and will be accountable for the five-year Spending Review work which will set the overall budget for GBN and its programmes with spend from £60m per annum to many hundreds of £millions per annum when the Programme advances. You will support the GBN Board Audit and Risk Committee. Responsibilities: Possess a comprehensive understanding of financial principles, accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS), and best practices, particularly as they apply to the nuclear or similar complex industries. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of financial reporting requirements, internal controls, and corporate governance frameworks. Maintain up-to-date understanding of the relevant nuclear industry's regulatory landscape, including financial regulations, licensing requirements, and compliance obligations. Proficient in financial management software, business intelligence tools, and data analysis techniques. Develop and implement a comprehensive financial strategy aligned with the organisation's overall business objectives, considering the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the nuclear sector. Lead the formulation of annual budgets and forecasts, ensuring accurate financial planning and resource allocation, in line with a five-year Spending Review approach. Oversee financial reporting processes and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements that comply with regulatory requirements and provide valuable insights to stakeholders. Produce the GBN Annual Report and Accounts and liaise with the GBN Business plan team to ensure the plan reflects the GBN budget. Conduct risk assessments and implement effective risk management strategies to mitigate financial risks and safeguard the organisation's assets. Identify and evaluate potential opportunities for business growth and strategic investments, providing financial analysis and recommendations to support informed decision-making. Lead and manage the finance team, fostering a collaborative work environment, providing professional development opportunities, and promoting high ethical standards. Oversee budget allocation and financial assurance activity over all GBN subsidiaries. Assume ultimate responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the organisation's financial records and reporting, ensuring adherence to accounting principles and regulatory requirements. Partner with senior management and board of directors to provide strategic financial advice, present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner, and contribute to informed decision-making, including to the ARAC. Oversee internal controls and compliance processes, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and mitigating risks of financial misconduct or fraud. Foster a culture of cost-consciousness within the organisation, implementing strategies to optimise financial performance and maintain long-term sustainability Lead the production of finance Policy, Procedures and practise and advise and support GBN subsidiaries as they are formed. Establishing and leading the provision of high quality financial reporting to the GBN Executive, Board and Board Committees and working with other GBN teams to ensure there is a comprehensive monthly GBN Corporate report Build and manage effective relationships with external auditors, the National Audit Office and the Government Internal Audit Agency in addition to other external finance stakeholdersKnowledge, Skills and Experience required: Proven track record of experience in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, with significant experience in the nuclear industry or another complex, highly regulated sector. Proven track record of leading and motivating high-performing finance teams. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex financial data, identify trends, and develop strategic solutions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels, present financial information effectively, and advocate for the organisation's financial interests. Experience with government funded Arm's Length Bodies would also be of use.Qualifications Master's degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or significant industry experience. Professional qualifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are highly preferred
