We're proud to be a top 50 UK university (Guardian University Guide 2024), with top-quality facilities, inclusive culture, and our vibrant, ever-changing city.About the roleFacilities Support Services offer a high quality, modern and flexible front-line service to the University community and we are recruiting for a General Support Assistant working 25 hours per week.Estates and Facilities provide a 24/7 service to the University therefore whilst the role holder's times of work will be fixed, a level of flexibility is required by all staff within the team. Occasional weekend working will be required in the post.The role of General Support Assistant includes, but is not restricted to some of the following duties:Porter dutiesDriving of University vehicles to collect and deliver equipment, waste and recycling, therefore a full clean driving license is an essential requirement of this role.Room set ups and furniture removal and transportation. Cleaning external grounds in and around the University Estate.Snow clearing and grittingOperation of appropriate service-related machineryReporting faults in equipment and premises.The role can be physically demanding as it includes tasks such as lifting items of heavy furniture and working outside in inclement weatherThe role holder will work 5 days over 7 across both campuses in Sunderland carrying out both indoor and outdoor tasks throughout the year including heavy lifting.What you can bring Operational direction and procedural policy will be given; however, applicants should be able to demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to prioritise tasks when appropriate.What we can offer you Our University is not just a place of academic excellence, but also a community that embraces inclusivity and support.
