The Project Accountant will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of multiple large-scale mechanical projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing project budgets, revenue and cost recognition, forecasting, financial reporting, generating cash flows based on project builds and milestone invoicing, and ensuring that all financial activities align with company goals and industry standards. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in a manufacturing environment. Job Accountabilities Financial Management: Monitor and manage the financial performance of projects, ensuring they stay within budget and meet financial targets. Prepare detailed project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for management. Analyse project costs, identify variances, and provide recommendations for corrective actions. Revenue and Cost Recognition: Ensure accurate and timely recognition of project revenue and costs, in accordance with relevant accounting standards. Review and analyse contract terms to determine appropriate revenue recognition methods. Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper documentation and tracking of costs and revenue. Cash Flow Management: Generate and monitor project cash flows based on project builds and milestone invoicing. Work closely with project managers and the finance team to ensure that invoicing milestones are met and accurately reflected in the cash flow forecasts. Review and close projects on a timely basis. Reconcile project sub-ledger to the general ledger monthly. Manage the timing of cash inflows and outflows to optimize working capital and minimize financial risks. Cost Control: Implement and maintain cost control systems and procedures. Implement and monitor adherence to internal controls over project-specific materials and common stores inventory Review and approve project-related expenditures, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints. Reporting & Analysis: Prepare regular financial reports, including cost tracking, profitability analysis, and variance reports. What we are looking for: To thrive in this role, you should bring: Professional Accountancy qualification, CIMA or ACCA, plus a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience Proven experience in revenue and cost recognition and cash flow management within large-scale projects. Experience within a manufacturing environment. Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, LN). Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and data analysis. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
