Account Manager

A supplier of high-quality metals and materials, Goodfellow specialises in the research and development sectors with a strong focus on science and industry. Our technical teams have worked on materials that have contributed to scientific breakthroughs in nuclear fusion, the fight against COVID-19, and have been used in probes that have travelled through space as far as Saturn.
The Role
The role of the Account Manager is to create opportunities to grow business within the existing customer base, as well as prospecting for and supporting the development of new or high potential customers.
This is an office-based role with the expectation of travel to exhibitions and trade shows as necessary.
Through managing a portfolio of customers that will most effectively be grown by Internal or External Account Management, they will support (and be supported by) other Account Managers in their region (who themselves will have their own portfolio) and work closely as a team.
The employee would be expected to work to sales targets while maximising both margins and gross sales.
There will also be an expectation that the job holder will work with the Regional Sales Manager and Sales Director, as well as other members of the sales team to contribute to the strategy and direction of the Sales function.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify new contacts, leads and opportunities within territory and customer base
Customer enquiry and opportunity management
To develop and manage sales with current and new customers
Proactively identify and respond to potential sales, purchasing or marketing opportunities.
Develop and improve relationships between the Company and existing or potential customers.
Work closely with the Technical Support group to develop opportunities and sales of more complex non catalogue enquiries
To grow territory & customers revenue while maintaining or increase average margin percentages
Supporting other Account Managers (especially when other is traveling or on specific duties)
Manage the enquiry processing for Cat Extension & Non-Cat products
(Email, Distributors, Agents) (History searching)
Load (items) into Jerico – (Pull through to Cache) – company ERP systems
Work with Purchasing/estimating to develop a sales price and send quote to the customer
Quotation and follow-up with customer (All their A & B Customer, Quotes >£500)
Enquiry queue management for their territory & customers
Customer complaints and issues – Awareness & Overview – (Supporting when needed)
Debt Chasing (when needed)
Customer database management within SalesForce
Electronic filing (Docuware), customer QE’s, drawings, etc.
(All A & B Customer, Quotes >£500)
Encourage customers to use the website
Participate in Phone days/Marketing days/ Campaigns to retain/regain lost customers
Skills and Qualifications
BSc or higher in relevant STEM subjects is highly desirable; sales experience into these customer areas will also be considered.
Excellent presentation skills including writing and editing PowerPoint or Prezi. Advanced spreadsheet skills, ability to extract and analyse data.
Well-organized with a customer-oriented approach.
Knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.
Experienced with using the telephone and can demonstrate good listening skills.
Creative and results driven, with excellent written and spoken communication skills
