There has never been a better time to join the GMFRS training department, working in our state of the art facilitate in the Incident Command and Leadership Academy.

We are inviting applications from highly motivated people for the role of Incident Command Associate Trainer based primarily in the Training Department at Bury Training and Safety Centre, but with some work at various training sites across GMFRS.


Incident Command Associate Trainers work as part of the training department and will be required to support and lead the delivery of Incident Command Training.The core purpose of the Incident Command Academy is to ensure the competence of our commanders is maintained by development and revalidation. This is achieved by a variety of simulated and practical scenarios. We work to identify commanders abilities and develop them through a variety of methods, and we explore new and innovative ways to do this.


Successful candidates will be required to deliver courses whilst developing tailored approaches to enhance operational skills and the performance of individuals and groups. The ever-changing circumstances associated with operational training will require individuals to be flexible in their approach to meeting the demands of the service i.e. response to Grenfell Inquiry Recommendations.

Role holders will be required to demonstrate and maintain competency in line with their acquired skill sets and qualifications, there will be a requirement to complete maintenance of competency (MOC) packages to demonstrate continuance of professional development.


About you: -

You will have operational Fire Service experience, and the ideal candidates must be willing to work towards and/or have a blend of practical experience and qualifications in educational or vocational training covering one or more of the following Fire Service disciplines:

  • Incident Command at Level Two (Station Manager)
  • Functional role skills such as HMEPO, NILO, Command Support Officer, Water Incident Management, Wildfire Management etc.
  • Up to date with current topics in the Fire Service such as Grenfell Inquiry, Manchester Arena Inquiry
  • Assessing qualification

The team members we are looking for will have a customer first, can do attitude with excellent written and oral communication skills. You will be required to meet targets and deadlines in the role, so attention to detail and high levels of organisation skills are a must.
