The Electrical Systems Engineer

 

The Electrical Systems Engineer is a key hire for the Mocean Energy team – the purpose of the Electrical Systems Engineer is to provide power electronics, electrical systems and engineering design expertise to the development of wave-based renewable energy machines. Electrical Systems Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:

You’ll quickly find that in the role of Electrical Systems Engineer, no two days are the same! However, some of the more frequent, day-to-day duties and responsibilities will include:

·       Design, develop, and specify electrical systems

·       Produce design documentation & reports

·       Produce system schematics using 2D software

·       Produce test procedures

·       Manage and support suppliers

·       Review supplier documents and drawings

·       Monitor and optimise system performance

·       Engage with internal and external stakeholders

·       Work on site and be willing to work offshore and travel for site visits to suppliers etc.

·       Support our QHSE department to produce technical qualification, health and safety documentation

·       Design, develop, and specify electrical systems.

·       Produce design documentation & reports.

·       Produce system schematics using 2D software.

·       Produce test procedures.

·       Manage and support suppliers.

 

Electrical Systems Engineer Skills and Attributes Required:

 

To be successful in the position of Electrical Systems Engineer at Mocean Energy, you’ll need the following skills, attributes and experience:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Systems, Automation and Control or suitable relevant degree. Appropriate documentation of practical qualifications and competency will be requested.

·       Electrical systems experience with practical hands-on experience in an offshore environment or equivalent relevant experience. 5+ years of experience represents a significant advantage.

·       Engineering experience in power electronics, instrumentation, and electrical systems. Practical hands-on implementation of electrical systems

·       Understanding of generators, power converters, rectifiers and inverters

·       Understanding of controls & communications systems

·       Understanding of product qualification & development

·       Experience in applying codes, standards, & directives

·       Competency in managing High Voltage as part of the overall electrical system

 

The ideal Electrical Systems Engineer:

·       Self-starter with a can-do, positive attitude

·       Excellent troubleshooting skills, strategic thinking skills and ability to work with complex problems

·       Experience working within small or start-up

·       organisation

·       Willingness to travel and work on site and offshore.

·       Well-developed planning and organisational skills

·       Willingness to engage in a wide variety of tasks

·       Diplomatic and confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills

·       Cultural fit within the wider organisation

·       Effective team contributor

 

Nice to have but not essential:

·       Working towards professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or similar institute/institution.

Other Relevant Information:

·       Recruitment timeframes: Accepting applications until 14 October 2024, followed by interviews week commencing 4 November.

·       Location: Flexible – within east / north-east Scotland. Edinburgh is preferred, with home working available (Mocean Energy also has offices in Aberdeen and Orkney).

·       Type of Work: Full time.

·       Salary: £55,000 - £65,000.
