Senior Ecologist

What we need:Our client are a leading environmental consultancy firm specialising in biodiversity, ecology, and habitat management. We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Ecologist to join their team on a contract basis to conduct Great Crested Newt (GCN) surveys for upcoming projects.What you will do:Conduct Great Crested Newt (GCN) surveys, including habitat assessments, presence/absence surveys, and population size class assessments.Use a variety of survey techniques, such as bottle trapping, torch surveys, egg searches, and eDNA sampling.Analyse survey data and prepare detailed reports, including impact assessments and mitigation strategies.Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and guidance.Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies as required.What you will need:Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.At least 3 years of ecologist survey experience Experience of conducting GCN surveys and habitat assessments.Natural England Class 1 or Class 2 Great Crested Newt Survey License (essential).Familiarity with relevant legislation, such as the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and The Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.Strong report-writing skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Willingness to travel to various sites as required.Desirable:Experience in other ecological surveys (e.g., bats, birds, reptiles).Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).Full UK driving license.In return:The successful candidates will be paid £400 per day, outside IR35 for an initial 3 month duration although there could be up to 12 months of work available with this business beyond this period.How to Apply:If you are a skilled ecologist with experience in Great Crested Newt surveys and are available to start immediately, we would love to hear from you!
