About School:

West Heath School is a specialist school dedicated to supporting children who have been failed by other educational institutions. Our mission is to rebuild the self-esteem and emotional wellbeing of our students, using education and academic achievement as tools for personal development. We value personal growth over examination results and focus on helping students develop responsibility, resilience, respect, and strong relationships (our 4 Rs).

Role Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic therapy team. You will work holistically across the school to support students’ wellbeing, assisting them in navigating their social communication challenges and building self-confidence. Your role will involve providing both group and individual therapy sessions, supporting students’ social and academic progress, and fostering a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and respond to referrals for speech and language interventions.
  • Plan and deliver speech and language therapy tailored to individual and group needs.
  • Manage a caseload, conducting assessments, and maintaining confidential records.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, offering advice and guidance to staff and parents.
  • Build non-judgemental, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional and academic development.
  • Offer training and support to school staff on effective communication strategies.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and the welfare of students, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Accredited membership of the RCSLT and HCPC registration.
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification.
  • Experience working with adolescents and young people with social, emotional, and mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and strong communication skills.
  • A commitment to promoting the values of responsibility, resilience, respect, and relationships.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working in a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) environment or school setting.
  • Specialist qualifications such as Makaton or sensory integration.
  • Attachment Aware/Trauma-Informed approaches.

Why Join West Heath School?

  • Be part of a supportive and collaborative team committed to student well-being.
  • Opportunity for ongoing professional development and training.
  • Make a real difference in the lives of students who need it most.
