B; The roles primary responsibility is the development of Mechanical and Electrical systems to support the integration of a range of armoured military vehicle platforms. The successful candidate will function as the Technical Lead Engineer within the project team with responsibility for delivery of the technical content across a portfolio of varied development and integration projects. Applicable technologies cover armour, mission, and automotive systems, which are collectively integrated into a base vehicle by the company to satisfy a set of defined overall system requirements. ? B; The work will entail a combination of design tasks, engineering support to Operations, support to the customer base including fielding queries on the legacy vehicle fleet, and involvement with engineering change. Design tasks will be conducted to the company’s design and quality standards and procedures, at the same time delivered within planned and agreed timescales. ? B; You will initially consult closely with and report to the Chief Engineer to ensure the required design meets the project scope, cost, and timescale requirements to the satisfaction of the department’s internal and external customers. You will be allocated design engineering support by the Design Office Manager when CAD models and drawings are required in support of the design process. You might be required to provide technical direction to sub-contracted subject matter experts in support of project delivery. ? B; You will collaborate closely with the Customer, Project Managers, and the Design team to turn engineering design concepts, initiated by customer requirements, into fully validated and verified designs fit for volume manufacture. You will be part of the customer facing team able to articulate engineering concepts to engineers, project managers and other key internal and external stakeholders. ? B; MAIN JOB DUTIES ? B; 1. Project technical responsibility to ensure system design meets customer’s technical specification, and any other relevant quality or regulatory requirements, such as those associated with automotive legislation. 2. Development of system designs that, in parallel, satisfy the needs of efficient and effective manufacture / assembly and ongoing supportability, while not compromising in terms of robustness and reliability. 3. Technical direction of the project design team to ensure that the final design satisfies the requirements specified. 4. You will recognise the need for engineering change and raise engineering change requests as appropriate. 5. You will undertake problem solving of design and product issues to resolve functional issues as they arise throughout the development and service lifecycle. 6. You will interact with production and quality teams to investigate and obtain any necessary corrective action data. 7. Supervision of prototype system design and build. 8. Test and test rig definition in advance of prototyping as part of the test readiness process. 9. Responsible for validation and qualification of system designs which may include hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. 10. Support of customer evaluation of prototypes, on occasion at customer site. ? B; The above statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required. ? B; EXPERIENCE ? B; ESSENTIAL ? B; 1. Honours Degree or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering or similar subject. 2. Proven track record of successful involvement in design & development projects – inception to launch - within an industrial environment. 3. Experience in electro-mechanical and/or mechanical system architecture. 4. Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards, ideally to aerospace / defence requirements. 5. Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as machining, moulding, casting, and sheet metal fabricating. 6. Familiarity with configuration control and change management. 7. Experience in the validation and verification of product including environmental qualification. 8. Thorough understanding of the principles of systems engineering. 9. Experience in compiling Design FMEAs. 10. Development of complex technical customer documentation packages. ? B; DESIRABLE ? B; 1. Previous experience in the design and development of military vehicles or their sub-systems. 2. Alternatively, experience within an aerospace or defence environment. 3. Experience in 3 D CAD modelling and detail design. 4. Exposure to Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools. 5. Significant portfolio of project planning skills. 6.
