Our client, an excelling freight forwarding and logistics organisation, with management of regular commercial freight logistics and specialising in providing comprehensive services for the movement of high- niche market products, are looking to recruit a talented Head of Air Freight to be based at offices in the London Heathrow area.

This is a senior management role that would suit a strong leader with proven experience of adding value and making significant changes to an air freight department to improve its profitability.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Head of Air Freight is responsible for the development, management, and optimization of the air freight product portfolio. Your role will involve overseeing the end-to-end process, from market analysis and product development to pricing strategy and operational execution. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, operations, and customer service, to ensure the delivery of high-quality services that meet customer expectations and contribute to the company's growth.

Key Responsibilities;

Operational Oversight:

  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure efficient handling, transportation, and delivery of general cargo.
  • Optimize supply chain processes to improve transit times, reduce costs, and enhance service reliability.
  • Monitor and manage service performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Product Development & Management:

  • Develop and manage air freight products focused on general cargo, ensuring alignment with market demands and company objectives.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape, using this data to drive product innovation.
  • Define product features, benefits, and service levels, ensuring they meet regulatory and industry standards.

Pricing & Commercial Strategy:

  • Develop pricing strategies that are competitive yet profitable, considering factors such as market conditions, cost structures, and customer value.
  • Work with the sales team to create compelling proposals and solutions for clients, supporting them with product knowledge and market insights.
  • Monitor financial performance of the product line, including revenue, profitability, and cost management.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for customers regarding air freight general cargo products, addressing inquiries, concerns, and service issues.
  • Develop strong relationships with key accounts, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Gather customer feedback to continuously improve product offerings and service delivery.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all air freight operations comply with relevant local and international regulations, including customs, security, and environmental guidelines.
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and industry standards, adapting products and processes as necessary.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare regular reports on product performance, market trends, and operational metrics.
  • Analyse data to make informed decisions about product development, pricing, and operational improvements.

To Be Considered

  • Unrivalled leadership and man management ability with proven experience of growing an air freight department
  • Experience in Air Freight Forwarding: Minimum 10 years of experience in the freight forwarding industry, specifically handling Air Freight
  • Knowledge of pricing strategies and financial analysis related to logistics and supply chain management.
  • CargoWise Proficiency: Familiarity with CargoWise software is advantageous.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to quickly adapt to new software systems.
