Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Birmingham (1-2 days potential from home)

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000

Our client is an industry leader within the UK Building Sector with a turnover in excess of £60 million and are on a growth trajectory to continue to expand in new markets. As such they are hiring for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to specialise within the Decarbonisation sector:


Within Decarbonisation they operate as a Main Contractor, meaning they have control of all elements of the build:


  • Civils
  • Construction
  • Building Fabric
  • Solar
  • M&E, etc.


They operate as a market leader in the design and integration of commercial scale decarbonisation solutions for the public and private sectors throughout the UK and Ireland, and are recognised as the contractor of choice, with a large portfolio of successfully delivered projects nationwide. Significant growth is expected as the uptake and integration of decarbonisation increases in line with 2030 and 2050 carbon reduction targets, with projects averaging between £5M and £15M.


Core Responsibilities of role:

  • Be responsible for securing the successful financial delivery of projects by controlling costs, progressing monthly valuations, and managing variations and change orders.
  • Liaising with contracts, estimating and pre-construction teams to obtain full understanding of each project scope.
  • Review and set out project package allowances prior to handover for tendering of works by operations team.
  • Review & collate subcontractor package awards.
  • Engage Sub-contractors, handle negotiations, prepare sub-contract documents.
  • Review and interrogate new and existing contracts, orders, and suppliers to ensure associated terms and conditions are relevant and acceptable.
  • Track & maintain monthly job performance reporting and feedback the same to Lead QS.
  • Prepare on-time monthly valuations following site measurements and work-in-progress reviews and follow up to make sure that payments are received on time as per the agreed contract conditions.
  • Vette and process monthly subcontractor payments.
  • Attend monthly commercial meetings to provide update on any ongoing contract specific negotiations and overall job performance.
  • Assist in the commercial activities of the business and provide support/advice in this regard to the Projects Managers as required.
  • Attend sites as required (England primarily, but may extend to Wales, Scotland or Ireland – dependant on workload and project awards).


Essential Criteria:

  • Third level qualification in a Surveying or Cost Engineering discipline or can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar Commercial role.
  • Commercially astute and ambitious.
  • Strong contractual knowledge of both JCT and NEC Forms of Contract.
  • High standard of organisational and time management skills.
  • High level of IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication & negotiation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent client engagement skills.
  • Current UK Driving License.
