If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join Southampton City Council on a permanent and full-time basis as a Flood Risk Management Officer. About the Role Based within the Flood Risk Management Team you will play an important part of helping fulfil a range of statutory duties and functions assigned to Lead Local Flood Authorities under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. You will be a lead professional and technical advisor on matters relating to flood and coastal risk management. This includes working collaboratively with other internal departments to deliver flood resilience projects and encourage uptake of blue and green infrastructure, as well as external partners and developers to achieve the best possible flood management outcomes for the city. Your work will be variable and include: Technical assessment of major and minor planning and development applications, including sustainable drainage systems for the management of surface water. Developing plans, strategies and guidance notes to support and shape the management of flood risk from all sources, Development and delivery of works including major flood defence infrastructure to smaller sustainable drainage and green infrastructure solutions. Investigation of flood incidents including analysis of flood incidents, Consenting and enforcement for ordinary watercourse regulation, and Working with other Council departments and external stakeholders to raise the profile of flood risk and climate change. What we are looking for: As our successful Flood Risk Management Officer, you will: Have a good knowledge of flood risk management techniques, including planning policy. Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and able to be innovative in finding solutions. Be proactive with a can-do attitude, with an enthusiasm for the environment. Be a good team player, keen and able to work collaboratively with stakeholders, partners and third-party organisations to achieve outcomes within a complex environment. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. Be able to effectively manage conflicting priorities, for yourself and the team, to deliver high quality projects. Have a degree in a relevant subject  Southampton City Council operates a flexible working policy to support work life balance, with a hybrid of office (typically 2 days) and remote working adopted by the Flood Risk Management Team. Please note that whilst remote working is possible, there will be times when you will be required to attend Southampton to carry out duties relating to the role, sometimes at short notice.
