An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic colleague to become the Team Leader of the Accounts Payable (AP) Team in the Finance Directorate.


The overriding responsibility of the AP Team Leader is to ensure that all our customers, suppliers and stakeholders are paid to their agreed contractual payment terms. The AP Team Leader also has a number of other responsibilities, some of them include, supporting, guiding and coaching all team members in their daily routines, reviewing payment transactions, preparing invoices for the team to input, liaising with customers, both internal and external, overseeing and or preparing payment transfers using key payment systems, processing foreign payments, and producing KPI’s, metrics and critical reports whilst ensuring all the rigourus controls that underpin the payment process are adhered to.

Salary for this position is £28,401 - £31,107, alongside other benefits such as 25 days holidays, pensions etc.


Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the team to ensure payments to suppliers and customers are in keeping with their contractual agreements.

• Providing support and direction to the team to ensure they apply the correct standards and comply with the controls, Policies and Codes of Practice that cover all types of payments.

• Responsible for ensuring the more specialised work gets carried out such as; Retentions, Construction Industry Scheme payments, Manual Data Entry payments, Lloyds Link Faster Payments etc.

• Planning and carrying out training/up-skilling any new/existing team members as and when required;

• Assist the AP Officer, when required, in carrying out preparatory work for audits (internal or external), and then follow up by implementing any actions/changes to process/controls raised to resolution.

• Assist the AP Officer if and when required in any payment system or business process change(s) before transferring into BAU.

• Provide excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.

• Possess excellent effective communicative skills across all formats.

• Possess an excellent working knowledge of MS Office in particular MS Excel.

• Work unsupervised and be self-starting in all BAU tasks.

• Carry out financial month end checks to ensure AP financial period closure and if required assisting in the rectification of any issues discovered.

Essential Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or higher (or the equivalent) including Mathematics and English language; or

• A minimum of three years relevant experience using Oracle CFS E-Business



Desirable Qualifications:

• 2x A levels or equivalent one must be in a finance/numerate subject or Professional qualification such as AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) or ICM (Institute of Credit Management)

• 5yrs experience working within an AP function using Oracle E-Business
